Win – Win Scenarios can Make Money

September 24, 2013

Sometimes luck falls into life at the most curious times.  Look for and be ready to seize the opportunity when it occurs.

I enjoy writing and have been working (on and off) on a stage play for 12 years or so.  My writing partner lives out of state and our schedules don’t allow for much collaboration.

I got lucky when I found “C” on a WordPress post last week.  She is an excellent writer and is badly in need of money because of tough times.

I need a partner to help me finish and “C” is willing to trade her writing talents for pay.  Win-Win!

My point is simple: keep your eyes open and be willing to take a change when the time is right.  From the other side, be sure your talents can be found by someone that needs them.

Looking for reasons to self-publish a book? Guy Kawasaki gives 10 in this impressive Infograph.  Writing is a home business and publishing is an extension of writing.

You may never become a best-selling author, but publishing can bring in extra money and add to your résumé or CV (curriculum vitae). Publishing boosts self-esteem and well, it’s just cool!

SmashWords eBook Best Sellers 1-4-2013

January 4, 2013

eBooks continue to sell at a remarkable rate: For 2012, SmashWords added 190,500 books to its library and 98,000 new titles were added to the Smashwords catalog.  This is up from 92,500 at the end of 2011, and up from 28,800 at the end of 2010, 6,000 in 2009, and 140 our first year in 2008.  This remarkable growth rate is expected to continue well into the future.

Homepreneurs believes that eBooks are a great way for writers of all genres, abilities, and interests to make additional money while pursuing personal goals from home.  While becoming a best-selling author via eBooks is unusual, it is not impossible.  And if best-selling is not ones goal, writing and publishing eBooks is one way to earn extra money on the side from the comforts of home.

Determining what eBooks people buy and related pricing is important.  To assist the reader with this research, Homepreneurs presents an updated list of the top-10 best sellers at SmashWords:

EBooks – an Update – Sold!

October 27, 2012

In the last week, Homepreneurs published step-by-step guides for using SmashWords and Kindle for creating eBooks.  I used a previously written piece of fiction for both SmashWords and Kindle to record and document instructions.  The same, unmodified work was used for both to view formatting and learn about results with one notable difference: the SmashWords version was initially offered for free – the first several days – then a price of $.99 was applied.  Wish Kindle, a price of $.99 was immediately applied after the eBook was published.

I can now say that I am both a published author with sales in addition!  Once again, if I can do this, so can you!

This post is a simple report on results noted thus far:

– SmashWords – work submitted 10-18-12 – 168 downloads, all free.  Price added 10-24-12.  None purchased as of 10-27-12.

– Kindle – work submitted 10-26-12 – 1 unit sold as of 10-27-12.

Because of the difference in free vs. charged, no firm conclusions are made about which service is better.  Also, this was a work of fiction published under a random, unknown pseudonym.  One can conclude however, that both services are very easy to use and will potentially make money for an author, provided the topic and price are in-demand.

Future tests with eBooks are forthcoming and publishing parameters will be the same.  Stay tuned for updates!
