September 29, 2011

Homepreneurs recently listed several potential business opportunities that can be home based.  We suggested energy options, green services, and service opportunities.  In this post, we list more service business opportunities that in-demand during good economic times and bad.  Each of these opportunities has solid income potential, good prospects, and are good choices for the work at home entrepreneur.

Web and Internet Services: These cover a variety of positions from social media consultants to website designers and programmers.  Each change in Internet technology – for example, Web 2.0 to 3.0 – provides many options for people interested in starting a home business.  Other business choices include: SEO specialists, Webmaster, content writers, and specialty programmers.  A good choice for information is the O’Reilly line of books.  Find titles at www.oreilly.com .

Tax Preparation Services: One of the three absolutes in life: taxes.  Tax preparers aren’t seasonal workers only; certain forms of business file quarterly taxes.  In addition, nearly half of U.S. adults use a tax service or accountant to prepare for and file with the IRS.  Most states don’t require a license to be a tax preparer; for those wishing to get credentials are available through self study materials.  Another tax occupation – tax reviewer – are specialists in tax preparation and help people resolve problems and mistakes.  For a list of tax-preparation resources, review www.taxsites.com .

Business Support Services: This service field covers a variety of administrative work needed by small businesses and professionals.  Examples include: Word processing, transcribing, drafting proposals and reports, proofreading and editing documents, and much more.  These positions are often called “virtual assistants” and work can be done at home, in a library or anywhere with an Internet connection.  Interested parties should look at Amazon’s Mechanical Turk and Short Task.  Persons looking for a mentor or certification can visit the International Virtual Assistants Association .

Homepreneurs wants to help everyone start a business that wishes to.  As part of that process, we provide ideas for home-based businesses and additional support for marketing, branding, and creating revenue for a new business.
